KH432A - Superschmeltz

Regular price $4.19 $0.00

This giant kohlrabi remains tender up to the largest sizes but must be spaced at least 30cm (12") apart. When Superschmeltz kohlrabi seeds are spaced 60cm (2') apart it can weigh up to 4.5kg (10lb)! Its large root system lets it grow well where water is limited. It handles winter weather well and can be harvested until April from a mid-summer planting. This variety is a staff favourite and presents a great way to impress your neighbours in the organic community garden. Even at the size of a volleyball, this giant kohlrabi seeds produce a tender, mildly flavoured kohlrabi.

How To Grow

This close relative of the cabbage was bred over centuries to develop a flattened meristem. Sometimes referred to as German turnips, kohlrabis are very rich in vitamin C, and a great source of potassium. The flavour is like a very mild cabbage and the texture is crisp and crunchy, a bit like that of a pear. Great in salads or eaten raw. Follow along with this handy How to Grow Kohlrabi Guide and grow food.
