Ilema's curly leaves qualify it as a "lollo bionda" type lettuce. It's impressively voluminous with substantial weight and fast growth. The leaves will add loft and volume to salad mixes, but they are quite nice on their own as well. It can be harvested from the baby leaf stage to full sized mature heads.

Ilema is part of the Eazyleaf® series of lettuces bred for ease of harvest. Cut the head from the ground and make a single cut around the short stem, and the leaves fall perfectly away for an instant salad. The seed bed must be kept consistently moist in order to take advantage of the high germination rate. If the clay coating around each seed is allowed to dry out, it can result in poor germination.
