SQ765A - Jade Dragon
Momordica charantla. Jade Dragon bitter melon seeds are also known as ku gua, Goya, Karela. Scrape the white seeds and pith out of this warty vegetable, and chop into bite size pieces for use in soups and stir-fries. Fruits grow straight when allowed to hang as they mature, so provide trellis support in the warmest available spot. Plants are most productive in a greenhouse or up against a south-facing wall. Don't let the name "bitter melon" put you off. The flesh of Jade Dragon is similar to a cucumber or melon, just not sweet. It absorbs other flavours well, and is considered a cooling vegetable in Chinese medicine, so it balances well with chiles.

How To Grow
The three species of squash that we offer represent a wide variety of shapes and colours. Each will cross-pollinate readily within their species. For instance, all C. pepo will cross-pollinate with each other, but not with C. maxima or C. moschata. For people who want to save their seeds, this is a very important consideration. The fruits themselves will not be affected by cross pollination, but the seeds inside will be, so squash need to be grown in isolation from other members of their species if seed saving is the goal. Follow along with this handy How to Grow Squash from seeds Guide and grow food.
